The Institute of Sport and Education at Bede 6th Form College has partnered with the Teesside Athletic Academy to develop a hub for local talented athletes that sit outside of their mainstream ISE Sport Academies.

Athlete’s from around the Tees Valley and County Durham Area that excel within their sport will now have the opportunity to train as a professional athlete alongside their A-Level or Vocational study programme at Bede 6th Form College. Bede are a TASS Dual Career Accredited site and ISE athletes currently have access to their state-of-the-art facilities including the strength and conditioning suite called the ‘Athlete Lab’, Fitness suite as well as receiving access to free on-site physiotherapy on a weekly basis. The partnership will see Teesside Athletic Academy deliver and design 2 x weekly strength and conditioning sessions, alongside performance testing and a complete athlete centred development plan including mental health support and nutrition plans.

Tom Wing, owner of Teesside Athletic Academy said “Teesside Athletic Academy’s foundational aim was to provide specialist sports performance interventions to local athletes in our local community. In conjunction with Bede ISE, we hope to become a hub for sports performance in our local area, to continue to support a number of local athletes reach their full potential and become leaders in our community. As part of the wide Teesside Institute of Health and Performance Group, our staff have exemplary academic standards and have extensive experience working at some of the largest sports clubs in the country and in the National Health Service.”

Ian Hewitt, the ISE Lead at Bede 6th Form College, said, “Teesside Athletic Academy have been providing this support for one of our current Golfer’s at the College and we have seen Jack grow from strength to strength, we are delighted to partner with Tom and his team so that talented athletes from around the area can study and professional level of performance support.”

The Athlete Academy will be hosting a launch event at Bede 6th Form College for interested athletes, the event is on Monday 24th April and will include a presentation for athletes and their parents/guardians, alongside a sample strength and conditioning session.
