As you begin your Sixth Form journey, you'll be given a target grade based on your GCSE results. This target reflects the minimum grade we expect you to achieve by the end of your A Level or BTEC studies. To ensure you are on track to meet or exceed this grade, your progress will be monitored through regular assessments. Additionally, you will receive one-to-one subject and pastoral support to address any academic or personal challenges you may face. Together with your teachers, you will set meaningful goals to keep you on track, we call this Action setting. This helps to give you ownership of your progress.
You will undergo a formal assessment each half term. During these assessment weeks, your teachers will administer timed assessments in each of your subjects. These assessments will focus on the material you have covered in class and will include past exam questions, ensuring you are well-prepared for your final exams. Additionally, you will participate in an annual mock examination period, where you will take a full exam paper for each subject.
For those studying BTEC courses, it is essential to meet all deadlines set by your teachers, as your final grades depend on continuous assessment. Managing your time effectively is crucial to staying on top of multiple assignments, and falling behind could jeopardise your progress. You will receive support and guidance in preparing for these assessments, but if you have any concerns, it is vital that you seek help from your subject teachers as soon as possible.
Each half term, you will receive a Progress Monitoring Report, where your teachers will evaluate your effort and attitude to learning and predict the grade you are likely to achieve at the end of your studies if you maintain your current level of effort. These reports will be shared with your parents/carers and discussed with your PPC during your 1:1s. If any concerns arise regarding your progress, we will work with you and your parents/carers to arrange appropriate intervention, ensuring you receive the support needed to stay on track.
