Results day was a family affair for Alfie and his dad Patrick.

A student at Billingham’s Bede Sixth Form, Alfie was in the unusual position of studying at a college where his dad is the principal.

“It has been strange at times,” said the 18-year-old with a laugh.  “But I honestly have enjoyed it.”

He admits that having the moral support on hand, has been a good thing, while at the same time, he added: “It does mean that everyone knows who I am.”

A keen musician, with his own band and two songs out on Spotify, Alfie is clearly following in his dad’s footsteps, achieving a distinction star in music technology.

His dad, Patrick, made his own name on the music scene as a member of indie band, Young Rebel Set.

Now Alfie, who also picked up qualifications in health and social care and religion, philosophy and ethics, has secured a higher apprenticeship at Stockton Borough Council as a trainee environment protection officer.

Starting work just days after leaving college, he said: “I have loved my time at Bede, but I felt ready to start work. I had a look around and saw this opportunity and thought it sounded ideal.”

So far, Alfie said: “It has been good and I’m really enjoying it.”

The opportunity will allow him to work towards a level 4 qualification while also working and earning a wage.
