A massive well done to the Bede ISE team for being named finalists for the Educate North Awards in the Student Experience Category.

The awards celebrate excellence and best practice in the education sector in the North.

Bede's Institute of Sport and Education (ISE) lead, Ian Hewitt, said: “It is fantastic to be a finalist and to have all our hard work and effort recognised.”

A Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) dual career accredited college, Bede Sixth Form offers up and coming young athletes who study at the college the chance to continue to work towards their sporting ambitions alongside their studies.

ISE was set up at the Bede Sports Centre to provide training, the chance to compete, along with expert coaching, fitness, strength and conditioning training, as well as guidance for injury prevention and management.

Also, recognising the benefits of health, wellbeing and fitness for all, ISE offers a platform for all Bede students to engage in sport and physical activity, regardless of the subjects they are studying.

And expanding its reach into the community, the team works with schools and local sports clubs to offer high performance camps, giving more young people access to sporting facilities and specialists coaching that they might not otherwise have.

Building strong links with elite athletes and clubs from across the region, Ian said: “Among our students we are seeing improved physical and mental health, a greater understanding of their own health and wellbeing, increased concentration and focus, results they are recognising in themselves.”

Attending a glittering awards ceremony at The Midland Hotel in Manchester, he added: “We were proud to see the ISE name up the among the finalists from across the region.”
