It looks like it could be a big year for Bede student Emily.

Named among the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham’s cadets, the Coronation of the King and Queen Consort no doubt promises a hectic schedule for the 16-year-old from Billingham.

But looking forward to the once in a lifetime line-up of events ahead, she said: “This is a really big honour, so to be chosen for it feels really good.”

Having been an army cadet for more than four years, Emily is currently a staff sergeant with Billingham Rifles.

She said: “Joining the cadets is something I wanted to do because I knew it would be beneficial and offered the chance to work towards qualifications.”

Working her way through the ranks, she now attends the cadets twice a week.

Currently studying Maths, Computer Science and Media Studies at Bede, she said: “It is a commitment but it is something I enjoy.”

The Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, Sue Snowdon, is His Majesty the King’s personal representative in the county.

Each year the Lord Lieutenant selects cadets from the region to represent the Cadet Force.

Emily will now be required to assist with Royal visits and other official duties for one year.
