There was plenty to celebrate as brothers, Jacob and Isaac, brought home the A grades.

Both Bede Sixth Form College students, the pair secured matching results, with an impressive string of six As between them.

A level student Jacob, 18, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I opened the envelope because I had been predicted an A and two Bs.”

In fact, given the summer to think about it, he had almost convinced himself he was going to miss out on his university place altogether.

His mum let out a whoop of delight, when he revealed the full house of A grades in A level Biology, Chemistry and Maths.

And there was even more to shout about when younger brother Isaac, 17, picked up his AS results, in business, chemistry and maths, and revealed his own set of straight As.

Predicted grades A, B and C, he said: “I was shocked because I was expecting to see the alphabet.”

Jacob is now off to study chemistry at Newcastle University and his brother Isaac won’t be far behind with his sights set on his own place at Newcastle next year!
