The Institute of Sport and Education has teamed up with Teesside Lions to launch a brand-new Basketball Academy at Bede Sixth Form College.

The academy will offer young players the opportunity to develop their playing skills alongside their academic studies.

Already holding Dual Career Accredited College status by the Talented Athletes’ Scholarship Scheme (TASS), a Sport England-backed programme, Bede has a number of sport academies already up and running, including women’s football, men’s football, women’s rugby, men’s rugby and netball.

With access to strength and conditioning programmes and nutrition, and sports psychology support on offer, players also have the opportunity to progress with Teesside Lions and Durham University Men’s team, with the new academy benefitting from top coaches from both teams.

Teesside Lions player and Director of Coaching, Anthony Reed, will coach the programme with support from Teesside Lions' chairman, James Thomson and ISE Lead and Durham Men’s team coach, Ian Hewitt.

Ian, couldn’t be more thrilled about the new partnership, he said: “The Tees Valley area is a hot bed for basketball talent and we wanted to partner with an ambitious club that values player development.  I’m excited to watch this academy grow and it is great that we are open to all club players both male and female.”

James said: “The opportunity to develop a basketball academy with Bede Sixth Form College is an exciting one for which we are well prepared. We have ambitious plans for basketball and are keen for the College Academy to grow into something special.”

You can find out more about our exciting new basketball academy by coming along to the Bede Sixth Form open event on Thursday 7th October, between 5pm and 7pm. Click here to find out more.
