Bede Sixth Form College has started the new term off with a fantastic day out at Teesside University.

From investigating crime scenes, designing album artwork and managing climate change, to interior design, measuring material density and examining bacteria under the microscope, students were able to gain an insight into not just possible career paths, but also into what studying some of their subjects at university would be like.

Focused on choosing the right path for themselves, the day also included some inspiring careers talks for our students from Melanie Brown, Principal Lecturer in the School of Science, Engineering and Design, and former Teesside University student, Hallam, who shared his own inspirational journey.

He said: “I am proud to be from Teesside – there are opportunities to work with global companies right here.” Emphasising how important it is to “follow your heart”, and to “jump at opportunities”, he also said: “No one can tell you that you can’t do something.”

Equipped with a base of knowledge in the STEM field, our students already study one or a combination of the following subjects at Bede: Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Computer Science and ICT. The STEMulate event offered an opportunity for our Year 12 students to explore how these subjects can translate into a huge range of different university degrees and careers.

With countless careers available in STEM subjects, who knows where our student’s journeys will take them? Watch this space!
