Sport & Exercise Science (Level 3 Extended Diploma)

Course overview

The premier sports course that is aimed at students that want to study Sport and Exercise Science full-time with a view to progress on to University or Advanced Level Apprenticeships. It is an aspirational and academically challenging course, which focuses on the study of Sport Science. We cover a variety of applied science-based units such as Anatomy, Physiology and Sport Psychology to provide you with key underpinning knowledge. We also progress into studying key vocational areas, such as Sports Injuries and Massage, Sports Coaching, Fitness Training and research-based areas.

We will cover a wide range of topics including: Sport and Exercise Physiology, Functional Anatomy, Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology, Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Performance, Field and Laboratory-based Fitness Testing, Coaching for Performance and Fitness, Specialised Fitness Training, Sports Injury and Assessment, Sports Massage, Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science, Technology in Sport and Exercise Science, Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise Science, and Sociocultural Issues in Sport and Exercise Science.

Entry requirements
Students should have grades 9-4 in five GCSE programmes, including GCSE English and Mathematics.

Course information

This course is assessed through a mixture of assignments, practical assessments and exams. Examples include written reports, presentations and observations of practical competence.
