Introduction

Do you have a passion for music? Do you want to learn how to make and record your own sounds? Studying music technology could be for you. With job opportunities across a range of different industries available for talented engineers, producers and technicians, you could go on to earn a living doing the very thing that you love.

What do we study

As a Music Tech student you’ll cover many aspects of the recording and sound industry, learning classic and modern sound recording techniques, recording your own songs and sounds, and improving your listening skills. You’ll record musicians, bands and soloists, and develop your own skills as an engineer.

How will I learn

Over the duration of two years you will be introduced to the exciting world of audio engineering and production, developing the necessary skills to be able to operate our state-of-the-art recording studio.

What's next

Students studying Music Technology have progressed onto University study at institutions around the country, including the prestigious SAE in London, Liverpool and Glasgow. Our Music Technologists have gone on to work in prestigious companies such as EA Games, Rough Trade, and Beggar's Banquet Records. Former students have also found success in bands and as solo artists.

What current students say

“Great, great enthusiastic and passionate teacher. The experience of working on commercial projects outside of the curriculum has been a great benefit to me and other students. The atmosphere in the lesson is always welcoming and pleasant, almost like a community.” “The teacher is very helpful and gives us plenty of support and always provides help when needed.” “This course is fantastic!” “The teacher is amazing and brings the class to life!” “I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to pursue a career in the music industry”

What else do I need to know

Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.

Student satisfaction with the course is consistently high, and the team work and technical skills developed throughout the course will be helpful for any future career.
Our former students have had the opportunity to work with signed bands on projects including music videos and album releases as well as TV and film soundtracks for major companies, such as the BBC, ITV and Sky.
Music Technology has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ within the college for a decade due to continual high grades, high success rates and the 100% pass rate.
