Introduction

If you have not got your health, what have you got? On this stimulating course, you will explore questions such as, how does a disease, such as diabetes, impact on individuals? How do you become an effective communicator? If you are looking for a career as a nurse, midwife, social worker, teacher or other care professional and want to develop your skills and understanding that are directly relevant, then this is the qualification for you.

What do we study

You will be able to choose from a single or double A level equivalent in Health and Social Care. If you choose to study the double Health and Social Care you will take additional units and gain a larger qualification. We cover many aspects of health and social care, including nutrition for health, developing effective communication, anatomy and physiology, dementia care, caring for additional needs, equality and diversity, psychology for health and social care, sexual health, reproduction and early development, health and safety and supporting people with mental health difficulties. Our students also have the opportunity to do some volunteering and work experience at well-known organisations like ReVitalise during their studies.

How will I learn

Health and Social Care students learn through practical tasks, self-supported study, research in groups or pairs, and formal teaching. You will also have the opportunity to meet people who are working in the industry.

What's next

Our students go on to a variety of further training and careers. Some of our most recent students have gone on to Adult Nursing, learning difficulty Nursing, Social Work, Midwifery, Operating Department Practice and Primary Teaching.

What current students say

“The teacher has excellent Health and Social Care knowledge and years of experience. The assessed work is promptly returned.”

What else do I need to know

Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.

There is an opportunity to organise work experience both locally and at a well-known voluntary organisation called Re-Vitalise. Re-Vitalise work experience allows you to work with disabled adults for a week for a minimum cost.
