Course overview
Take your interest in sport and fitness to the next level with this course that combines practical activities with theoretical study and prepares you for work in the sport, health and fitness industry. The course aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress further or to gain employment in a sport-related setting. You will be given the chance to take part in a number of indoor and outdoor sport and fitness activities and study theoretical areas such as anatomy and physiology and nutrition.
You will study a range of topics including Participating in Sport, Health, Exercise and Nutrition, Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise, Sports Coaching, and Development of Personal Fitness. You will also have the opportunity to take part in work experience in the sport and fitness industry.
Course information
This course is assessed through assignments and a range of practical assessments that are directly related to current industry practice.
On successful completion of this course you can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development. Other options include progressing onto an Intermediate Apprenticeship in the sport and active leisure sector or employment in the industry.
Four GCSEs at Grade 3 including English langauage and maths.
Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.

There is a sportswear package that you will be required to purchase during enrolment. The package includes a t-shirt, shorts and mid-layer top. The cost is £55 (subject to change).
You will have both theory and practical sessions in which you will cover specific criteria related to each individual unit. Activities in class, the sports hall and Astro Turf will range from group work, individual work, research, presentations and practical application.
