Choosing to study engineering is a fantastic way to open up a wide-range of future career opportunities. Whether you want to work in industry, specialise in a particular engineering area or just gain an insight into the sector, this exciting qualification provides a broad basis of study as well as developing specialist work related skills that are in demand by many employers.
You will study a broad range of topics related to engineering including:
- Engineering principles
- Safe engineering processes
- Product design and manufacture
- Computer aided design
- Maintenance and condition monitoring
Course information
You will be assessed through a range of examinations to test your theoretical knowledge and assignments to check your practical skill development.
Engineering opens the door to a wide range of further study and career options, including all of the fields of engineering, science, business and industry. You could choose to continue to university study or you could pursue a higher level apprenticeship. Several of our students studying at Bede have secured higher level apprenticeships with global employers such as PD Ports, Johnson Matthey, Fujifilm.
Grades 9-4 in seven GCSEs (AGCSE 4.50 – 5.00) plus Grade 5 in Science and Grade 5 in Maths.
Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.

A mixture of learning strategies will be used in your studies, including problem-solving activities, group work, independent work as well as significant hands-on practical experience which will be part-delivered at our amazing NETA site.
