Course overview
History is more than learning about historical events; we challenge interpretations so that we can understand how events of the past shaped our lives today. You will learn to form and support your own opinion on a range of historical issues. This is a varied, exciting and challenging course which will help you to understand the early modern world in 1500’s and the development of monarchy, religion and Tudor social, cultural, economic change.
You have 4 main topic areas to study across the course: the Tudor Dynasty- Henry VIII to Elizabeth I, National/religious conflict in 16th C Europe, a coursework topic to develop your research and investigation skills and the witchcraze in Britain, Europe and North America.
Course information
This course is assessed by a combination of coursework and examination. You will complete one piece of coursework and three exams at the end of Year 2.
History students have gone on to study history or related courses at prestigious universities including Russell Group, and work in related industries such as politics, teaching and journalism.
Grades 9-4 in seven GCSEs (AGCSE 5.00 – 5.50) plus Grade 4 in GCSE History and Grade 5 in GCSE English
Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.
