Course overview
Applied Science is a two-year course covering aspects of all three core sciences: biology, chemistry and physics. The course places emphasis on coursework and practical activities and will help you develop the skills needed for working in the science industry. This Applied Science course is widely accepted by major universities, and is ideal for students wishing to work in fields such as forensics, cosmetics and healthcare.
Based in our purpose-built laboratories, you will learn many skills and techniques such as: colorimetry, titrations, energy content analysis, DNA replication and gene insertion as well as many transferrable skills like independence, time management and self-confidence. You will be covering the key concepts of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. These include: human body tissue, the nervous system, cell specialisation, reactivity of elements, electron configurations, satellite communication and wireless technology.
Course information
This course is approximately 50% exam-based and 50% coursework-based.
Some of our most recent students have gone on to study nursing, criminal forensics and applied computing at university. Others have progressed on to science courses, midwifery, media studies, primary education and music technology.
Grades 9-4 in seven GCSEs (AGCSE 4.50 – 5.00) plus Grade 44 in GCSE Combinded Science
Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.

You will learn through a mix of fun and exciting scientific experiments based in our laboratories, coursework focused sessions and classic teaching styles. Use of online resources and digital technology is a major component of the course.
