Introduction

Nobody can deny the effect that computers have had on our life and society. From the internet to mobile phones, space travel to medical diagnostics, computers touch every aspect of our lives and have driven world change. Join us on this course to learn how they function and how to make them work for us.

What do we study

You will learn how computer systems work and develop the skills needed to write the software that makes them run. Developing practical, analytical and programming techniques you’ll develop real skills that can be taken into industry or higher education.

How will I learn

We deliver the course, fun, fast and humorous. We focus on practical, hands-on programming, teaching you how to design and develop software for the 21st century. Looking at approaches to problem solving, we break down complex notions into smaller, easier problems that can be quickly solved.

What's next

70% of the 2018 group progressed on to study a Computer Science related qualification at university, including Newcastle, Leeds Becket, Northumbria and Sunderland. Predominate courses were pure Computer Science, Games Design and Digital Forensics.

Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.

The computing industry is growing five times faster than any other industry. Because of this, the UK is struggling to recruit enough computing graduates, meaning lots of potential job opportunities.

Computer Scientists are required in almost every industry and vast opportunities for international travel and relocation.

Computer Scientists are in demand and their salaries reflects this. Recent graduates in professional roles earn quite a lot on average (top 15 highest earners).
