Introduction

Are you interested in exploring the nature of the physical world? Do you want to know more about how physics is using in engineering and modern technology? Physics is a challenging but rewarding subject, and this course will help you understand not just the bigger things like our ever-expanding universe, but also the finer details, like how physics can improve people's daily lives.

What do we study

You will study a huge range of topics from the very large universe to the smallest quarks. You will understand how principles of physics underpin other sciences and engineering. Maths is an important aspect of physics, and you will develop your analytical and problem-solving abilities.

How will I learn

We make physics interesting with an emphasis on the applications of physics. The subject is taught through a variety of student experiments, demonstrations and theory sessions.

What's next

Future careers include all sorts of options, like a geophysicist or a meteorologist, or a research scientist or technical author, for example. Physicists often have the right skills for careers in finance, computer games programming and technology design. Some of our most recent students have gone on to study Astrophysics at Hull University, Theoretical Physics at Durham University, Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering at Teesside University.

What current students say

“I really want to do Physics to be an engineer” “Physics is fun, but difficult at times. You need good maths skills”

What else do I need to know

Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.

There is an increasing demand for physics and engineering graduates.
Physics opens the way to an enormous variety of career choices.
Physics graduates are amongst the highest earners of all graduates.
