Introduction

This practical course is ideal for those interested in coaching, teaching and have a general interest in the study of sport. The course has a great blend of theory and practical and is assessed via non-examination methods. We look closely at sports careers including sports coaching, sports development, fitness training and teaching. It is also the perfect route for those that may struggle with exams. Upon successful completion of the first year, students can register with CIMSPA as an Assistant Sports Coach. Upon successful completion of the second year, students can register with CIMSPA as a Lead Sport Coach. Student can use these qualifications to work in the coaching industry.

How will I learn

All of our classes are a mixture of theory and practical. Wherever possible underpinning theory will be demonstrated in a practical context using our excellent facilities. We will do a mixture of group work, individual work, research, and presentations.

What's next

This course opens many doors, including the opportunity to further study the subject in higher education. The Extended Diploma is equal to 3 A Levels and carries a maximum of 168 UCAS points. Other progression options include higher-level apprenticeships or direct entry into work in the sport and leisure sector. Higher-level apprenticeship options include Community Sport and Health Officer, Advanced Coaching and Personal Training.

What else do I need to know

Depending on your previous grades you may need to study English and maths alongside your other courses. These are essential skills that all employers value.

Our sports facilities are state-of-the-art including sports hall, climbing wall, fitness suite, and an FA-accredited Astro Turf football pitch.
Join one of our successful sports academies ranging from men’s football, women’s football, rugby and netball. All academy learners get access to weekly training sessions, competitive games, strength and conditioning, and access to our sports injury clinic. We are a TASS Dual Career Accredited Centre and can provide additional support towards your studies and sports performance.
Alongside the course, there are opportunities for learners to gain additional qualifications such as L2 Gym Instructor, National Pool Lifeguard, Sports Leaders Award and a range of coaching qualifications. Learners will also complete industry-based work experience. This is a core element of the course, which develops future career paths, and learners have gained employment.
